What are the implications if the water supply is shared in the community?

like if the source is an artesian pump or an open dug well. what are the possible problems that can arise?

  1. There are a number of problems that can arise:

    1) Pollution

    2) Overdrawing water will lower the water table decreasing supply

    3) A scenario similar to "the tragedy of the commons" whereby because the resource is shared among communities, each community will exploit the resource to their maximum ability.

    4) Long-term effects on surrounding vegetation, wildlife etc.

    5) There are some geo-physical effects as well (dont remember what they are...sorry!)
