I am referring to the reddish, spicy condiment served with Dosai masala not the cocunut chutney the other condiment..not the soup the condiment. i love South indian food and i have learned to make the potatoe and onion curry that goes inside the lentil pancake.I suspect maybe chilis and tamarind but I'm not sure. Thank You.A recipe would help.

  1. SAMBHAR refers to the "soup" served with many South Indian meals.  It is made of dal and vegetables.  Sambhar is not a condiment nor is it a chutney.  Traditionally, masala dosa is a dosa stuffed with a potato & pea bhaji or subji.  It comes with usually coconut chutney and sambhar dal on the side.

It may also be served with various other chutneys such as tomato or roasted red pepper chutney.
