  1. Im officially from Belize, born and raised here. We are not part of the brits anymore since 1981, we are and independent country, hence you can call us Belizeans, we are known for the diverse ethnic groups that lie here. Furthermore, yes we are part of the Carri bean officially and also that of Central America, we are one of the most unique countries you'll find, period!

  2. my mom's ex is from Belize and they are not part of the carribeans they are owned by the british and considered british.

  3. Geographically, Belize is a part of central america, but from a legal standpoint, Belize IS a part of the Caribbean. Belize is a member of CARICOM.

    1. Its ONLY coastline is in the Caribbean Sea. This makes it different from most other Central American countries.

    2. It is english speaking. This also sets it apart from other Central American countries.

    3. They are called Belizeans.

  4. Belizeans.

Belize is an independent nation (not owned by the British) and is considered to be part of Central America.

  5. Inhabitants in Belize are called Belizeans.

Belize is economically and more legally linked to the Caribbean, however, socially, and geographically more closer to Central America. So depending on what you are talking about, we can be considered either.

By the way, we are no 'owned by the british'. lol.

  6. tonalc2 is part right....  A person of Belize nationality is called "Belizean"

Belize is historically a Caribbean country they are what we call a "Mainland Caribbean" country. Their east coast is washed by the very same Caribbean Sea as the Eastern Caribbean islands are.

The other thing that bonds us English speaking islands with Belize is that Belize has always been among hostile neighbours as well.  Guatemala constantly tries to say they are going to forcefully take over Belize and they've done things like created maps showing Belize as their eastern most province.  So Belize has always stayed close to their fellow English speaking countries in the Caribbean for support. Guatemalan troops have also gone into Belize and tried to kidnap Belize troops at various times.

In the past, the constant threat of takeover by Spain/Guatemala even caused Belize's government to be administered from the island of Jamaica where it would be safe from any invasion of the Belizean territory. Some Guatemalans have stated to move inside Belize's dense rainforest close to the border and their people constantly try to claim the area they are occupying as Guatemalan territory basically to eat-away at Belize's western territory.

We in the Caribbean say just like Israel has the right to exist, so does Belize.

Belize *is* a member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) regional grouping along with the Caribbean Single Market and Economy (CSME).  Also, the Caribbean Community institution called the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism [ http://www.caricom-fisheries.com/ ] for all the other Caribbean countries is based in Belize.

Also Belize is not a part of the British anymore.  The Queen is still the Queen because they haven't changed that last little part of their constitution (like many of the other English speaking Caribbean countries also haven't done.) But by no means does that make Belize a part of the UK still.  The Queen is basically only the queen due to a few lines and all of her powers are pretty much only carried out by a Belizean Governor General who does everything in the Queen's name.

Also the Queen really has no power.  For example Queen Elizabeth was the Queen of Grenada when it got invaded by the USA and nothing was done. Belize remains under threat now and still she does nothing to protect Belize from Guatemala so the Queen's role in Belize and many other Caribbean countries is really moot.
