What are the insects called that hang out on the top of the walls in the house?

they look like little swordfish but are bugs?

I remember as a kid my parents bought a new house and we had them. we are now killing them all the time in my gf's apartment.

Are you talking about silverfish??  I call any insect in my house "unwelcome"....buy raid.

Yeah.. ummm, I think you're talking about silverfish. They're little silver fish looking things that crawl everywhere and when you smush 'em they get silver smeared everywhere.

They're probably silverfish -- basically a harmless nuisance, but they like to be where there is a lot of moisture (humidity).

Look for signs of mold and condensation and/or water damage on the walls, floor and ceiling of your gf's apartment. If you really want to get rid of the "bugs", the real problem needs to be taken care of.
