  1. Well, yes and no. Normally, an English degree can prepare you for a wide variety of careers. Journalism, writing, editing, advertising, management, marketing, clerical, etc.

BUT, right now, jobs are hard to get. There are dozens of candidates, maybe hundreds for each open position. If an HR rep has to choose between an English major and a business or marketing major for a marketing or management job, etc., the business or marketing major will usually win.

In good economies, any kind of degree will take you somewhere, in bad economies, the hiring managers have their choice. Sadly, English isn't always the most appropriate degree when they can have someone with a more specific degree.

  2. Yes, it definitely is. I don't know any multi-national companies, but I do know that the main language of communication is English, so since you have a good background in that language, plus I'm sure if you're considering doing this, some background in another language (doesn't have to be a major or a minor, just a few classes). Plus, you'll be more situated for writing job within the corporation, they'll know you're structured, have great time management/organizational skills, you're grammatically correct/very good writer, and that you have a knowlegeable background in the history of things because you read a lot of things that gave you a feel for the past, which is always a good way to connect with nations older than you and from which you've read their books.

Sorry, that might be one big, long run on sentence. But you get my point.

    English degrees are the best!

  3. What about journalism---writing in books, newspapers, magazines, for TV, radio

Doing research and writing synopsis, human resources....anything that requires communication skills, teaching English as a second language.

If you think about it any type of cpy requires good English skills Ad agencies, insurance agents..do you really want me to continue??
