Hello... I am moving home and have tried selling excess clutter at a boot sale and on ebay but some stuff is just too difficult to sell. Am I allowed by law to have a table top outside my new house for a day and have things for sale on it? I am hoping to branch into selling plants the same way in future... cheers darlings :)

  1. You don't say whether you would be doing this in your front garden or whether you propose to set up your stall in the street. If you are operating within your own premises, this is perfectly permissible, but if you spill out onto the pavement, this constitutes obstruction, for which you could be prosecuted by the local authority. Perhaps the trading standards officer of the new local authority is the best person to advise.

  2. As long as you are not selling as a " business " - which you are clearly not doing then no problem .Dont block the public footpath or allow your customers to do so , otherwise carry on and good selling !

  3. Consult your local Council as there could be by laws preventing this in your area. Somebody in my village was selling vegetables and plants from their property and they were reported and the Planning Department came down on them like a ton of bricks.
