Question:

What are the laws about motorcycle rear view mirrors?

The mirror broke off of the right side of my 92 yamaha fzr. Now it just looks stupid and I was thinking about taking the other one off or somehow glueing that right side back on.

I also don't wanna buy a new one.

But I don't know how legal it would be to take the other side off and I think that if I glued it back on it would end up shaking loose.

I want to know the california laws and maybe some advice on a good adhesive.(don't just say super glue) I want something with like unreal strength.

  1. Get some mirrors.

I don't care if it is legal or not to have mirrors (and I am pretty sure it is illegal where you are) as mirrors are essential for safety.

Pay a few pounds or dollars and get a new pair before you head out on the bike. It'e better than being hit by something you didn't see.

  2. do not be cheap buy a new mirror.

  3. As stated, two mirrors.  You want something with unreal strength?  Try this.  Buying a NEW mirror.  No glue will ever be able to compare.

  4. I glued a mirror back in to my daughter's car using four minute JB Weld.

    (JB Kwik).

Her mirror is like a sport bike mirror with a plastic housing.

  5. The California Department of Licensing Motorcycle Operator Manual says:

    At minimum, your street-legal

    motorcycle should have:

    • Headlight, taillight and

    brakelight.

    • Front and rear brakes.

    • Turn signals.

    • Horn.

    • Two mirrors.

IMO It's realy not a good idea to ride without mirrors. One lane change could turn you into road pizza. Or if you're riding in a group you could hurt one of your buddies.

You can buy fzr mirrors on e-bay for $15 - $20.

    .

  6. I know In NC you have to have at least one mirror. probably the same in CA. Won't pass inspection with none.

I bought a $5 velcro bicycle mirror to avoid the trouble and hassle.

  7. I would do bar ends on an FZR,BUT,

the AMA site, which could be dated, but normally isn't, states only one rear view mirror is required for California, and either one is OK.
