  1. Efforts are being made to manage sewage, but much has yet to be done.  Furthermore, laws no one knows about undermine their intent.   Cicero said, "True law is right reason in agreement with nature.

"Municipal sewage is a major source of water pollution, posing a threat to both human health and aquatic environments. In addition to human excrement, sewage contains hundreds of chemicals and other toxic pollutants from households, businesses and industrial operations. Both untreated (raw) and inadequately treated sewage cause water pollution. Coastal areas in both eastern and western Canada are closed for fishing, swimming and shellfish harvesting because of unsafe levels of fecal coliform bacteria."

"The Government of China pays high attention to the prevention and control of water pollution. Ever since 1996, China has designated water pollution prevention as the essential work of environmental protection of the entire country. Achievements have been made in the water pollution prevention in the recent decade. The laws and regulations on water pollution prevention have been continuously improved; and the enforcement of the laws is fairly strict."

"Federal law in the U.S., normally requires that sewage treatment plants send waste through a series of cleaning steps. First, solids are separated and removed. The sewage then goes through "biological treatment," where living organisms break down remaining solids and kill bacteria. Typically, the waste also is treated with disinfectants to meet sanitary standards before it is discharged, usually into waterways."
