  1. The Down Syndrome Association of WA has a website at http://www.dsawa.asn.au/issues.html

This page quotes: "Many people would like to migrate to Australia and though it's difficult, a fair number succeed. For families who have a member with Down syndrome, however, or almost any other form of disability, the process is immeasurably harder. They face automatic exclusion, on the grounds that their family member fails to fulfil the health criteria - not on the basis of ill health, but on the basis of their manifest disability."

You do NEED to be aware that it may well be harder for you, but I am pretty sure that I recall others in a similar position managing to migrate here.  Possibly on this migration forum: http://z3.invisionfree.com/ABCDiamond

The DDA recognises that the Migration Act and its provisions are discriminatory and permits migration officers to discriminate on the basis of disability - which they do, sometime unfairly, other times with consideration.

  2. Surely you mean 'emigrate to Australia'. Learn to spell first, they're fussy in Australia.

we are looking not we looking

    Australia not austrailia or austraillia

    I not i

    Down's Syndrome not down syndrome

    eligible not eligable

    emigrate not imigrate

There's an English test to sit before you can enter.

  3. There is an Expo for Australia coming up in the UK in October!  - "Change your life and move to Australia!

Find your job at the Opportunities Australia Expo." see details http://www.expo-australia.com  - They state job offers are made at these expos for the skilled workers and they can also fast track your applications.

Other sites for EXPO’s are “Australia Needs Skills Recruitment Expos”  - http://www.immi.gov.au/skillexpos/index....

Nurses are on the skilled shortage list - so I would advice booking a place at this EXPO.

I am not sure about immigration with a Downs Syndrome child.  It shouldn't matter though, as someone else mentioned - it would be disgusting if this did hold you back!

  4. we were told that are downs son was ok till we were no longer able to look after him then he had to go back to uk in the usa but not shore if its same in othercountry'ss you shud ask theAustralia embassyy

  5. I would certainly hope a down syndrome child would not hamper you, I'd be disgusted if it did.

Your age is ok, the limit is 45. The other factors will be your occupation, do they need nurses over there more than, say, teachers...

Also, your financial status will be an issue (what you've got in the bank) as they will not take on people they feel could be a financial burden to the state.

Try to get a sponsor, someone who will vouch for you (like a reference). If you are able to speak to hospitals over there (get hold of the newspapers/jobs sections, or look the net), that will make your life considerably easier.

Call the Australian Consulate, they will be happy to give all the info you need.

  6. Hello. I know that you will not have a problem getting into Australia as they cannot get enough nurses. My cousin is a nurse and she said they are hiring people from oversea's as they have not enough. It does not matter if you have a child with down syndrome. It goes on what you have to offer Aussie. I hope that helps you out. Good luck and hope things work out right for you.

  7. Sorry but it's not possible to immigrate to Australia from England. You can only emigrate.
