my friend is creating a chat room website which will be international and i want to know in the legal issues... what is there to look out for.. such as do we need to see a lawyer for anything?...

Yes, there are grave issues around privacy and liability for what is allowed to be said. Some argue as long as the moderator does not censor it's not their fault what is said. I'm using this as an example, check with a lawyer versed in internet laws.

                 When u talk about legalization and laws then they vary depending in which country u live. Look for it search internet. Do not market any copyright material which belongs to other. Create a disclaimer and mention about age limitation and other threat that comes into your mind, which should accept by anyone who come to chat(create some script to automate it). Also see the privacy policies of other chat services so you can have some idea. If the website is for personal use then there are no less strict laws and regulation but again check out your country laws about internet safety.
