  1. Suppose they are aliens in disguise?

Jk they could seriously be Blow Flies (often metallic blue and fuzzy).

It states directly from my "National Audubon Society -- Insects and Spiders" booklet that "If you see a bright green or blue fly that is the size and shape of of a House Fly, you can be certain that it is a blow fly".

  2. Noseeums are nasty little bugs you find swarming, they are typically found near the ocean and around rivers, lakes, and swamps. Also they get stirred up when it is in the early evening hours, when a storm is brewing and it is muggy out and there is not a breaze to be found. It is the female that inflicts the nasty bite. Consequently they go after any exposed skin, be it human or animal. A normal walk is fast enough to outrun these slow flying bugs, and a slight breeze is enough to cause them to lay low. these little bugs are also known as biting midges, these tiny bugs can be as small as .04 inches long.
