What are the little packs that come with new backpacks?

So every year I get a new backpack and there's a little pack, says,"GEL Throw Away Do Not Eat" so is it poison?Or something to keep the backpacks fresh?Or something else?

  1. its a chemical that keeps your pack dry. they put them in shoe boxes, purses and other clothing type items. they are everywhere if you think bout it. if they are poisonous idk. but i dont think its good to eat lol

  3. It is a chemical "dessicant"...

    A chemical to absorb moisture so that your new shoes don't include fungus.
