  1. bangers and mash!

  2. "The Piccadilly Cafe", eat your way through the menu:

Also the Sausage and Mash cafes:

Sponge puddings with syrup, anything & custard, fry ups, F&C.

  3. "PIE MASH & LIQUOR"

    also 'cockles & winkles'

    and Jellied eels

  4. the thing about London is that it's so multicultural you should try national dishes from around the world, or you could try a local cockney dish Jellied Eels, not my thing though. Try wandering around Borough Market if you'd like to try a range of food :)

  5. Do you mean food?

If you are a visitor - or even a local who has never done it before - then go to Petticoat Lane!

It is an incredible market and you will get whatever you want!

I do hope that it still applies - I moved away (much to my regret) from London about 35 years ago - but that is where I would head for!

  6. London has so many cultures but a traditional dish is Sausage and Mash or Pie and mushy peas or eels

  7. you have got to try pie and mash will jellied eels. two of the best i know are located in Chapel Market, Islington N1, accessable via the Northern line tube from Kings cross, the other is in exmouth market, just off of the back of Smithfield meat market, EC1, accessable via Farringdon road tube on the circle line,

  8. Find a pie and mash restaurant in the east end, you can sample the delights of pie and mash with liquor, also jellied eels.

    Rather you than me.

  9. The bins around Piccadilly circus are worth a try but it gets a bit busy so I'd say wait until nightfall!

  10. It depends where you are in London - in Stoke Newington, it would be Turkish, in Southall it wouuld be Indian, in Brixton try Afro Caribbean, in Stockwell, Portuguese, in Hackney there are some great Vietnamese restaurants.

If you mean native London specialities - then jellied eels, pie & liquor, fish and chips, maids of honour in Kew, tea at the Ritz.

London will offer you whatever you want as it is so multicultural - this week I have eaten Russian, Chinese, french and Italian!

  11. try ur local kebab shop

  12. Jellied Eels, Pie and Mash with Liquor (mash and parsley flavoured liquor, or gravy are v. tasty, the meat pies are an acquired taste)

Fish and Chips  - there are some great fish and chip places and some very bad ones - do a bit of research on the net first, but the 2 Brothers in Finchley is good.

The best food in London at the moment in my opinion is Turkish - Gallipoli in Upper Street's a good one, but walk down Green Lanes in Haringey and there's loads of good and cheap places.

Avoid: Angus Steak Houses, and almost any chains.

  13. You can try me anytime, anyplace, anywhere.
