Question:

What are the lovely blooming trees in arlington, va. They look lilac-ish. Very bring pink or white trees.?

Nope. Neither of those. The blossoms are clustered on the end of the branches, similar to a traditional lilac, but the pink ones are an INTENSE hot pink. They don't seem to have much fragrance.

  2. Yes, I believe John C is correct.  To quote from this website http://www.nps.gov/nacc/cherry  "The famous trees, a gift from Japan in 1912, signal the coming of Spring with an explosion of life and color surrounding the Jefferson Memorial on the Tidal Basin in a sea of pale pink and white."

  3. Could be crepe myrtle. I live in VA and they're everywhere blooming right now. White and pink.

  4. I believe you are seeing two different trees.
