my partner is a vegtarian and consequently, that kind of makes me one too as we eat identicl meals. Hes a skinny man and keeps everything offf, but since moving in together, have fallen into the old cheese sandwich for lunch trap.

As a consequence, i've put on nearly a stone since :( what are the vegitarian alternatives that isn't a salad sandwich?

  1. well, it means dont have whit bread have brown bread and dont have to much cheese (tip:u can put a bit more in like tomato ect.)

  2. yesterday i had 2 whole wheat mini bagels with garden veggie flavored hummus and tomato slices.  this was maybe like 350 calories, if that.

i like the morningstar farms sausage patties (my bf eats meat btw, but like you, living together he's pretty much a veg now too :P).  i put them on a whole wheat mini bagel also with a slice of 2% reduced fat cheese.  about 250 calories and packed wtih protein.

i'm a fan of the whole wheat mini bagels or english muffins (or bread) instead of white bread.  more filling for the calories.

sometimes i buy the soy ham/turkey/bologna and make sandwiches with that.

how about wraps?  you can use anything... beans, soy chicken strips, tofu and various veggies and wrap it up!

i like to use the morningstar farms ground "meat" to make tacos.  my bf LOVES THEM.  or burritos.  just put some taco seasoning, salsa, cheese, whatever you'd normally put in a burrito with the ground meat (or beans if you prefer) and eat it up! so good!

how about soups and chili???  i like to make chili using a couple types of beans and the ground soy meat stuff, chili seasoning, salsa, extra veggies... tastes great. or various soups.... buy vegetable stock in stead of chicken stock and cook up your favorite veggies.

i also prefer whole wheat pasta to regular.  the other day i made whole wheat pasta with pesto sauce, kidney beans, and mixed veggies (just threw in a bag of frozen veggies) and it was great.  you can have it hot or cold.

if i think of more quick small meal ideas i'll get back to you but i hope that helps!

  3. have a veggie burger! they are good.  Or try mixing things up a little by eating wraps also.we make a rice mushroom and cheese wrap, we do but fat free cheese.

  4. Low fat hummous is a good one. There are 121 calories per 50g serving and 9.7g of fat compared to almost double that for regular cheddar cheese. It's great with avocado or lettuce.

If you eat cheese why not just have low-fat cheese? It's not as nice but it is lower in fat.

You could try using low fat marge on your sandwich rather than butter. I use Pure which is vegan, it's pretty good.

If you eat fish, tuna is a good protein for a sandwich =] have it with spring onion and lettuce.

  5. Well, you could easily lighten that sandwich up. Get whole grain bread, like FiberOne. Then use a fat free or soy cheese, and make sure you have the serving size. Also try and vary what you are eating! Whole grains and vegetables are great!

  6. use a skim mozarella cheese for you.. I do this for my cheese sandwiches whereas my family uses the full fat cheddar..

use whole wheat bread or buns..

add yummies like bright ripe tomato slices.. some black olives. mushrooms, bell pepper slices.. honey mustard.. anything to jazz it up...
