I would tend to disagree with the above answer.

In the way i have read and understood the question i would say a general term or way you could use to describe genetic information is the "genome"  which is made up of all the genetic material and organism need for all the cell types it will create in the future. These are made of DNA which is of course expressed through transcription and translation - giving rise to phenotypic variation.
