  1. United Methodists and Baptists have much in common -- belief in God and Bible, acceptance of Jesus as Christ and savior and divine, observance of Baptism and Communion as the two sacraments. “Our tradition asserts the real, personal, living presence of Jesus Christ. We understand the divine presence in temporal and relational terms. In the Holy Meal of the church, the past, present, and future of the living Christ come together.”

United Methodists baptize infants, youth, and adults; Baptists baptize only confessing youth and adults. Baptists baptize by immersion; United Methodists use immersion, sprinkling, and pouring. United Methodists have communion open to all; Baptists open the table to baptized church members only. United Methodists have bishops and are governed by districts and Conferences of churches; Baptists have independent congregations, which choose their pastors. United Methodist pastors are sent to congregations by bishops, after consultation with the congregation.

  7. The main difference is actual political (though they would both deny it to the death).  Baptists are deeply aligned with Southern conservative politics and culture, including dislike of g**s, belief that only "Bible based" (which means politically conservative) churches get you to heaven, and belief in traditional family values, which means no pre-marital s*x, no birth control and that mothers should stay home with kids if possible.

Methodist are a British based (henced "Yankee" and liberal and thus widely hated by Southern conservative Christians) faith.  They support g*y rights for the most part, have female priests, and support family planning and contraception rights.

Try them both and find out for yourself - I did!  (Now if I could only find a Methodist church around here!)

  8. Methodists baptize infants as well as adults and Baptists baptize only people capable of a faith response(believers' baptism)

There are few doctrinal differences between liberal Methodists and liberal Baptists

  9. one is a fundie and one is not

  13. It depends.  If you're talking about independent Baptist churches, then that's the difference.  The Methodist Church has a governing body. Independent Baptist Churches are owned and operated by the pastor.  Otherwise, they are both fundamentalist religions.

  14. The problem with Baptists is they don't keep 'em under long enough
