  1. Private colleges are more and usually have less people.

Professor to student ratio at a Private .College. is usually like 1:4 whereas at a Public college it's 1:50.

Private colleges are better but more expensive.

  2. money.

class size is usually smaller in private college.

people at private school usually are a bit more smug.

  3. in general private colleges are smaller (with smaller that means smaller class size too usually), cost a lot more, have the same tuition for in state and out of state students, and private schools are usually more prestigious because they usually give you a better education

  4. A public college is answerable to the taxpayers, which means that in an economic crunch, they often suffer more than do private colleges because their budgets get cut.  They are a lot less expensive, but aside from larger classes, they may offer fewer sections and students often take 5 or 6 years to graduate because they can't get the classes they need.  At a private school that would never happen, because the parents would be on their doorstep screaming that for the tuition they pay, their child had better be able to graduate in four years!

I've worked at both, and I find that the students and parents have a lot more power at private schools.  That has its pros and cons - you get some really spoiled kids at private schools.  I've had students yell at me that their parents paid a lot of money for their tuition and I owe them an A for that!

There may be differences in the types of majors offered.  The role of a public school is usually to educate the young people of the state in order to provide for the things the state needs.  That means that very often there is a focus on majors like education, nursing, business, etc., and fewer "creative" majors which may be harder to sell to the taxpayers as necessary.  Oh, and in a state with multiple campuses, there are often restrictions against offering the same major, other than standard ones, at more than one campus.

There is usually more bureaucracy at public colleges.  I've interviewed at public colleges with dangerous, falling-apart buildings and been told that they not only had to raise the money for a replacement (which would be true of a private school too, of course), but they had to wait for approval of the state legislature to repair or replace the building - approval which was delayed year after year.

Most private schools see their dorms as significant revenue streams, so they encourage all students to live on campus, at least at first.  There are usually far more commuter students at public schools.

I'm sure there are other major differences, but those are the main ones I can think of right now.  Hope it helped.

  5. Upper class = money = rich people who want to only associate with other rich people. Therefore you poor people stay out. LOL

Don't worry, not all rich people are snobs. But man some are. I've meet a few Private college kids. Man what a crowd to run with. new cars, the best of the best and only the best. They have money and privileges that we poor folk can never even imagine. Just think of the most expensive pants you bought times it by 10 and that's what they spend on a single out fit. LOL

Also, don't be shocked if some of the rich rich rich super rich kids don't know how to cook, clean and or know how to talk to us poor kids. LOL

Sorry, funny question. I think this is great. Go to a public college if you want too. But if you want to go private it's great too. You'll have a good time where ever you go.

  7. private colleges cost more. they usually have smaller classes.

  8. Public is much less then private.
