Like appetizers are hor d'oeuvres or however you spell it, well what are the main courses

  1. In order:

    aperitif (I like a martini)

    amuse-bouche (a tiny little pre-appetizer, meant to whet the appetite)

    entree (this is the APPETIZER, which we also call the hors d'oeuvre, very confusing for us English speakers)

    plat principal (this is what we call an entree, silly isn't it)

    fromage (a whole course to itself)

    dessert

    cafe

    digestif (more liquor, the French really know how to do a menu)


  2. Start with an "entrée"  it means "appetizer" in French.

    The "entrée"  is  the "plats principaux," or main dishes.
