  1. Blu-ray uses a a blue laser (technically violet) which has a shorter wavelength (405nm) compared to the standard DVD format, which uses a red laser, wavelength (650nm). The shorter wavelength allows more data to be written onto a single disk, Bluray storing 50GB, about six times that of a standard DVD. Not only that, but it also uses the latest in advanced video and audio codecs giving greatly enhanced picture quality and audio playback. HD-DVD is similar, though does not hold quite as much. Since Bluray have recently signed up Warner Brothers, they now own 70% of the market so i would not bother with HD-DVD anyway, it is on it's last legs so to speak :P

    Hope this helps BadJrv
