One of the major contributors to the greenhouse effect is the large amount of greenhouses gases produced by human activity.  These gases include carbon dioxide and methane.

The necessary solution, but probably no sufficient solution, is the humane reduction of the human population.  That is, one woman-one child for two generations.  It would reduce the human population by 75% in less than a century.  Without population control, every other solution will eventually be overwhelmed.
