  2. Canada has adopted the idea of being a cultural mosaic.  It is a bilingual country that supports immigrants maintaining the cultural identity of their native countries.  This is in contrast to the "melting pot" concept adopted by the U.S.

    Canada, because it is a small (in population) and shares a long border with the U.S. and has strong ties to the UK, tends to be an importer of culture.  The U.S. is very much a cultural exporter.

    Canada has much stronger socialist leanings ("socialized" medical care being one example); the U.S. tends to be more conservative.

    Canadians tend to struggle with their cultural identity.  Americans take theirs for granted.
