What are the major differences between the contemporary criminal (adult) justice system and juvenile justice system? Are the major differences appropriate, given the differences between adults and children? Explain your answer.

  1. The juvenile system tends to favor rehabilitation through community service and changing attitudes.  Also, records tend to be expunged after a period of time if the youthful offender stays out of trouble.

    In the adult system, repeat offenses are dutifully recorded and a person's overall record is considered when incarceration is necessitated.

    Criminals tend to commit multiple offenses before they are caught.  And, adult criminals tend to continue to break the law if sentencing is too lenient or is deemed a small punishment in relation to the possible rewards which can be accrued in a unlawful manner.


  2. It depends entirely on what jurisdiction you are talking about.   The system in Scotland is completely different from the system in England & Wales for instance.
