  1. The first of the series and the gun that launched Ruger was the Standard Automatic, most people mistakenly refer to this as a MkI

The Standard Auto came with 4 3/4or 6 inch barrels and was loosely based on the Nambu and Luger designs

MkI had Target grips and a 3 1/4 barrel or a 6 7/8 barrel and a heavier target barrel but basically still the Standard Model

Mark II added a last shot hold open on the bolt and more barrel configurations , one more round to the magazine, and scallops behind the bolt for easier gripping

I have no idea about MkIIIs because I have never owned one and lost interest in the series after my fifth Mk

  2. Vangion has the Mk I and MK II right.  The MK III added the b*****d magazine disconnect, a loaded chamber indicator on the left side, and moved the magazine release from the traditional bottom to just behind the trigger guard on the grip.  The Mk II & Mk III both could be had in the 22/45 configuration.  This model has always had the magazine release where John Mosses Browning designed it to be on a M1191.

Magazines from the MK I and MK II bottom magazine release are interchangeable.  Mk III have a notch for the magazine release to lock on and are not interchangeable with the earlier design.  The 22/45 have a different magazine from the others and have different ones for the MK II and MK III, but the Mk II will work in the MK III.

  3. The III was a slightly more revolutionary design, employing the more upright "military" grip angle giving it a feel more like a 1911. The grip panels cannot be changed like the I and II.

I like the feel of the III better but have small girl hands. Not real pleased with the trigger action.

    Yes some girls like guns!

  4. People usually prefer the mkii to the mkiii. One reason is the mkiii's magazine stop. If there isn't a magazine in the gun and a round in the chanber it won't fire. The mkii doesn't have this. The mkii has a wider array of aftermarket parts, you can change the grips and I think the grip is better.

If you considering getting one of these get the mkii.

  5. Im thinkin they are all good guns and I shouldnt even be answering this because I havent actually researched the difference. If You want a good gun get one. They are very fine pistols. Some of them have a 1911 style grip, others have a luger type grip. Go to rugers website and the differences should be spelled out for you.
