  1. erupting volcanoes

  2. The Sun and Geothermal vents are the only two things that could possibly heat the oceans.

Heat in the atmosphere can't heat the ocean because air holds a lot less energy and mass.

  3. I think pollution is the main reason. EVERYTHING ends up in the oceans, Even the smog gets washed down by rainfall.

  4. Let's keep it simple. The oceans aren't warming. Go back to bed, there are no monsters in the closet.

  5. where does the heat come from?

    the sun.

why is it warming now, more than it was 100 years ago?

    that's more complicated.

in general, greenhouse gases cause heat to be retained.

much like an additional blanket will keep you warmer in the winter.

    does it really work?

    yes.

i'm going to start, by talking about water.

    but don't dismay, i'll get to CO2.

maybe you've noticed that when it gets cold at night, there is a difference in how cold it gets, depending on whether there are clouds, or it's clear.

when it's clear, it gets colder.

infrared energy is radiated up from the earth.

when there are clouds, some of that energy is reflected back to the earth.

when the sky is clear, that energy is lost to space, and it gets colder.

    CO2 does the same thing.

CO2 allows sunlight to come through in the day time.

however, at night, when infrared energy is radiated, at much longer wave lengths, CO2 intercepts it.

it then radiates it again, and some is lost to space.

but some goes back to earth.

quite clearly, water, and clouds, have a stronger effect.

w/o them, the average temperature would be far below freezing.

the CO2 we've added only makes a small difference.

but that small difference is major to many organisms.

  6. The Earth's climate changes in response to external forcing, including variations in its orbit around the Sun (orbital forcing, changes in solar luminosity, volcanic eruptions,[17] and atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations. The detailed causes of the recent warming remain an active field of research, but the scientific consensus[18][19] is that the increase in atmospheric greenhouse gases due to human activity caused most of the warming observed since the start of the industrial era. This attribution is clearest for the most recent 50 years, for which the most detailed data are available. Some other hypotheses departing from the consensus view have been suggested to explain most of the temperature increase. One such hypothesis proposes that warming may be the result of variations in solar activity.[20][21][22]

None of the effects of forcing are instantaneous. The thermal inertia of the Earth's oceans and slow responses of other indirect effects mean that the Earth's current climate is not in equilibrium with the forcing imposed. Climate commitment studies indicate that even if greenhouse gases were stabilized at 2000 levels, a further warming of about 0.5 °C (0.9 °F) would still occur

  7. ah.. ok theres a few reasons why, there are these like belts that move water like cool water and warm water, i cant remember what they are called..

the sun does play a role as well, i mean the water absorbs some of the rays and that warms it up, but also when the earth was formed (if this whole evol thing is tru) when the big bang happened and the earth started forming heaps of heat got trapped inside the earth and yeh that heats everything up, one day it will diminish i expect but we will all be dead by then, but yeh this is in teh most basic terms i learnt it at uni so yeh i hope it gives u some help

  8. Where did you get the impression the oceans are warming? Because there not. I don't have the reports saved on my work computer, but I'll give you some of the other indicators that the oceans are cooling off not warming up.

The main one is Hurricanes and their intensity. Each year we are seeing fewer of them and the ones we do see are a lot weaker. A little lesson on how these storms are formed cold air from the upper atmosphere mixes with warm moist air from the oceans then after they form they need to be continually fed by warm moist air if they don't they weaken and fall apart. That's also why they deteriorate after they reach large bodies of land like the United States or Mexico.

The other indicator is we're expericing El Nina seasons this is the opposite of an El Nino season which we had in 1998.

The last thing I'll mention is we are in a cooling down period of sun spot and flare activity. - Sun spots and Flares create a lot more heat. So in essence without these things going on on the surface of the sun we are expected to cool down over the next 20 years, which is how long they are predicting this sun cycle to last.

  9. (World temp) answered, the question. It's part of the energy cycle that many alarmist omit when making a point. Anything beyond 500ft the sun doesn't reach, the internal core temperature of the earth is about the same as the sun. So shallow oceans and those having a thin crust ie; (Greenland), are more prone to these influences.
