I want to update my makeup so I would like to know the best brands (and colors for me--brown hair brown eyes fair skin--if you so choose) of these:

I use Rimmel liquid eyeliner in dark brown. It tends to stay put longer than a kohl liner which is good for smudging and giving a smokey eyes look but doesn't stay put as a fine line on my eyelid.

With your colouring you can experiment with many eyeshadows. Browns and greens would be nice for a daytime look lightly dusted over but for evening you can go a bit mad with a gold, irredescent look. Ruby and Millie do a fantastic range of eyeshadows in double ended pens and there is a lovely one with gold and brown.

L'Oreal do a good 6 hour Glam Shine lip gloss. I would recommend a nude/pale pink colour for day and a darker, cherry-red shade for evening.

Foundation wise I suggest investing in a Max factor Miracle Touch or any from the Clinique range. I thoroughly advise getting it matched to your skin tone by one of the make-up advisors and ask them to suggest one particularly suited to your skin type.

Aquasmooth foundation (they have many shades)

Lashblast mascara (dark brown or black)

Wetslick Fruit Spritzer lipgloss (raspberry is my favorite)

Outlast eyeliner (dark brown or black)

They have really cute eye shadows. I suggest the queen collection in shades of gold, green, or brown.

Those are the best of the best for you... sephora is far too expensive.

MAC and NARS are my favorite make up lines, hands down. With your coloring, you could try these products (all from MAC):

Eyeliner: Fluidline in Blacktrack or Brown Down, Powerpoint Eye Pencil in Engraved or Buried Treasure.

Eyeshadow: Climate Blue, Humid, Carbon, Beauty Marked, Deep Truth, Naked Lunch, Jest, Electra.

Lip Gloss: Oyster Girl, Nymphette, Underage, C-Thru, Florabundance.

Foundation: MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NC15 or NW15, depending on how light you are. Mineralize Satinfinish is a nice light foundation as well.
