  1. Go to a place with one, take a tape measurer, and measure it up.

You may want to just look up the laws in your area.  Different areas may have different laws.  If you can avoid it, please, don't stick a door in the front of your bathroom.  Use that extra little space space to build a "hallway" into the bathroom.  It will be easier for a handicapped person to swing into the bathroom.  You also won't have people using extra paper towels to open up the door (followed by the toss on the floor if no trash can is handy).
