well, first to note, you can't use the leaf for tea. Since THC is fat soluble, you need to pre-pare it in butter and water. but if you live in cali, and are able to get their medical tea then your lucky.

Personally, i like to eat/drink it, but, the effects are much different from smoking. If you eat it, it can take 30-90 minutes to kick in. also, it's hard to determine the exact potency so you could do a lot by accident and freak by the affects. also, high can last up to 10 hours.

If you smoke it, you crash in 2 hours and irratate your lungs/asophagus which can be painful.

really there is no difference in preparation, because they both get you high, just, the tea will give a more heathier option and different feeling. and no smoke or smell.

Well I know in reference to smoking, marijuana does have very significant effects on the health of your lungs. Although it does not contain the same chemicals as cigarettes, the potency is very dangerous. As to tea however, I would assume that you manage to get around those effects, and due the the heat of the boiled water I would also assume some of the potency is lost as is the same with mushrooms. In general, marijuana ingestion does not have significant medical benefits, and the hype is not entirely credible. You should consult some botany books in your local library or consult a medical professional or chemist who works in botany. Hope that was helpful.

I voted for john c..good answer. Tea could work if there's milk in the tea...actually I think cannatea tastes horrible. You need something containing fat, that's why people make cannabrownies.

As for the medical effect, burning cannabis to get the THC and other chemicals is very inefficient so taking it in tea form would allow you to capture more of the THC.
