Question:

What are the methods available to pay child support in Maryland?

My husband has been divorced from his ex-wife and has been giving her child support unfailingly since the child-support order (more than 3yrs ago). However, recently, he lost track of the weeks and missed a check (we pay every 2weeks). And when his ex-wife made a fuss, we realized our error and gave her 2 consecutive checks to catch up. But now, she insists that she wants to have the courts take the money from him directly - even though this is the first time it ever happened. I'd like to know under what conditions the courts will grant her request, and if they do, will it come out of his bank account or his paycheck (from his employer)? We do not want them to take it from his paycheck! Thanks!

  1. She would need to go through the court to get this done. Seems silly to do over one late check. If she does, it would probably be ordered taken out of his check. If you are not paying through the Child Support bureau now, and it gets changed, you will probably also be paying a fee to them for handling the account.
