  1. Common minerals found in soil include: Silica (quartz) as sand and silt particles; clays, including kaolin and montmorilonite, calcium carbonate, iron hydroxide minerals such as limonite and goethite; and other minerals left over after weathering of the bedrock.  The mineral composition of the soil will depend on the composition of the parent rock.  Soil will also contain a large amount of decomposed organic matter; especially in the upper "A" horizon

  2. Soil is the naturally occurring, unconsolidated or loose covering of broken rock particles and decaying organic matter on the surface of the Earth, capable of supporting life.

Soil particles pack loosely, forming a soil structure filled with pore spaces. These pores contain soil solution (liquid) and air (gas). Accordingly, soils are often treated as a three state system.

Soil is also known as earth: it is the substance from which our planet takes its name.

  3. mostly conglomerate rock and metamorphic rock which differs from area to area, but soil always contains dead and decaying materials that range from fungus's, animals, plants, or bacteria.
