Is there a particular make/model, type or size that stands out from the rest in the 20'-30'+ range?

Is the difference in price between newer and older boats MOSTLY a reflection of their seaworthiness, cosmetics or market perceptions?

I was told that Flicka 20 is a good pocket cruiser. It looks great but is a bit on the expensive side. When searching yahtworld.com and other sites, I find results for hundred of affordable sailboats--many less than $10,000, some less than $5,000. What is a realistic price to expect to pay for a sailboat that will require minimal non-cosmetic repairs?

  1. It's hard to put down a price, but if your only planning on spending 10k on the boat, It will need many upgrades such as safety gear to go offshore. I better bet would to be get on someone Else's boat. It will be much much cheaper.

If you insist on having your own boat look at the olson 30. They can be had relatively cheap and have made ocean crossings before.
