Its known as the netherlands,holland is only 1 part of the netherlands just like northumberland is only 1 part of england.

Anyways "van" is used allot in dutch names before the last name.I know allot of the second names have more of a scandanavian sound to them.E.g van rebergen , van grinsen e.t.c
