And Central America too. Buenos Aires is one, I suppose. What about the others? By "cosmopolitan" I mean with hip, sophisticated people, interesting architecture, lots of things to see and do, and a pleasure to explore on a Saturday afternoon. Gracias, amigos y amigas.

  1. I'd agree with you; Buenos Aires would be my number 1 choice, if you're looking for architecture I'd also suggest Panama City, Brasilia & Rio. Culture and nightlife, again Buenos Aires and Rio.

  2. Definitivamente-BUENOS AIRES!

  3. In addition to the ones above, I would say Bogota, Colombia.

  4. I  say also , Cusco Perù

  5. -Medellin, Colombia

-Cartagena, Colombia   + the islands of cartagena (las islas de rosario)

    -Rio de Janeiro, Brasil

  6. Buenos Aires (Argentina)

    Vina del Mar (Chile)

    Sao Paulo (Brasil) -IMPRESSIVE-

    Panama City (Panama)

I suppose there are others, but I only have reference of this three.  Sao Paulo is something completely out of a sci-fi movie.

  7. I would say Buenos Aires, Ciudad de Mexico, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Caracas and Bogota.

  8. Rio is probably the city for you.  While Buenos Aires is all of the things you mentioned in your question, Rio has an even more amazing night life unlike anywhere I've ever been.  You can samba it up one night with a live band, drink caprinas (local drink) on a beach side bar the next and follow it up at a hip hop club the next.

It has a lot to see during the day like Pao de Azucar (Sugarloaf Mountain) and Christ the Redeemer, Ipanema and Copacabana beach.  The shopping isn't the cheepest, but has endless posibilities.  Chilling on the beach in Ipanema is probably the best way to spend a Saturday afternoon that I know of.  The local music like bossa nova is unique and fun to seek out.  Of course it wouldn't be a trip to Brazil without catching a soccer match.

The people are gorgeous, friendly and great to chat with.  My only advice is that if you're choosing between Ipanema and Copacabana to stay, go to Ipanema. . .it's ten times cleaner, clasier, and way less touristy.
