  1. It's a bracket.  Plain and simple.

Of course there are over the top models with a ridiculous price tag similar to Monsters overpriced audio/video cables.

  2. Tilt, Swivel, Super Duty to hold a 800" X 500" monitor or Perhaps a scissor jack to raise and lower it,

or the name Monster on it!

  3. I have installed more types of projector mounts than I would care to mention.  It all depends on what material you are mounting your projector too.  For example, is it a drop ceiling, open, or angled?

There are codes to be fallowed also.  Especially if you are installing the projector in a floating ceiling.  Mainly having to do with what we call hurricane support.  But that has to do more with commercial installation.

There are mounts that include braces that allow for movement of the projector so that the exact positioning is not required.  There are stabilizers in case of vibrations caused from movement above the mount.

You can get the cheap c**p that you can get from your local electronics store, but I would suggest getting a chief mount.  They are the best quality and have pretty much anything you need.  You just have to make sure the mount is made for your model.  Chief also provides security screws so that people can't just remove the mount and take the projector.  Plus they accept a 2 in pipe fitting you can get from Home Depot.

    Main points:  Secure. Adjustable. Ascetics.

  4. The only important parts of a mount are that it can level the projector (right to left and front to back) and tilt it to the desired angle. Projectors are so light that any rigid metal mount will be sturdy enough. The only thing that may bring it up that far in price is if it's motorized. The link below is an online retailer of mounts and they have decent pricing:
