  1. Callaway X20's I personally have used many other clubs and these are by far the most forgiving.

  2. Ping G-5's are very forgiving.  They are costly but great clubs.  And if you like Taylormades like myself, I would try some older Burner irons or a set of RAC OS irons. Both of those you should be able to get for around $200 used.

  3. you should look into a hybrid/iron combination set.  I recently bought myself a set of Cleveland CG golds.  I tried several and the Callaways were definitely NOT the most forgiving for me nor were they the longest.  For my swing the Cleveland's were the most forgiving and Taylor Made R7 the longest.  Cobra S9 irons  were just awarded the top spot by Golf Magazine for the Max Game Improvement category

Golf Digest doesn't do it as clearly, but you can check the results here.

Whatever you decide be sure to try them out before you shell out all that cabbage.  I was swayed in an entirley different direction after trying out clubs.  I used callaway for years and i couldn't be happier with cleveland I am going to be shooting in the 80's before the end o June.
