  1. Patience, patience, patience. These students are much less in control of their behavior than others. They often talk way before they think, then regret it later. They may be extremely sensitive to criticism, so do it gently.

  2. patience

    persistence

    patience

    training

    patience

    endless devotion

    patience

    endless love

    patience

    self control

    patience

    etc.

  3. A sense of humor

A genuine interest in things that are important in the students lives

The ability to not take misbehaviour personally

The ability to really look at what the student needs, and plan how to build those needs using strengths.

    Respect for where they are.

  4. set up a bar in your house and stock it well, you will need it at the end of the day

  5. empathy and consistancy

  6. As the others said, patience is the big one.  It is also important to be able to not take things personal, to not react out of emotin.  While I think that it is more important to have a personal bond with students with emotional or behavioral issues, it is important that your consequences are implemented in a manner that lets them know that it is not a personal issue.
