  1. One good place to start planning is here :-

    http://www.visitlondon.com/

Another good place for information can be found here :-

    http://www.timeout.com/london/

also have a look on this website  :-

    http://www.londontown.com/

    ....

  2. There are quite a few sites out there that show you pictures and have information on the many many many London attractions.

One that has some nice photos that I sometimes look at is:

    http://www.populartouristattractions.co....

  3. Try to go to Covent Garden, if you can -- it's a covered market with loads of interesting street performers, and it's right at the heart of London.

If you're into art, the Tate Modern and National Gallery are both interesting, and for shopping, the main high street is Oxford Street.

If you want to see some historical buildings, go to Westminster and see Big Ben and the Houses of Commons, as well as Westminster Abbey (the burial place of some extremely interesting people, like Isaac Newton).

And, whatever you do, make sure you go to Trafalgar Square on a sunny morning – it's stunning.

  4. St Paul Cathedral is nice, esp if you can do the tour - and manage the walk up the long staircase to the top (there's a great view, esp on a clear day.

I also suggest a boat ride, you can go for traditional 'tour' boat, or jump on the commuter boat from Embankment over to Canary Wharf - jump off at Canary Wharf, check out the cool buildings, and catch the Jubilee line back to central London.  It should cost arounf 4pounds, and take about 30-40 minutes.  There's some great photo ops - and the Commuter Boat won't cost as much as those Touristy ones.

Soho is fun, there's a lot of cheap restaurants and drinking places.  A lot of g**s hang out here, but its also a major hangout for people who work in media.  Covern Garden is great for shopping, it gets very touristy, but its nice.

Don't spend too much time in Leicester Sq - by all means go and see it, but its extremly touristy and very few "Londoner's" can be found there.  Its normally full of Hen/Stag weekenders from up north, Euro-trash, and thieves looking for unsuspecting tourists - it is extremely dangerous afterdark; gang of thieves work there.

Transport - www.tfl.gov.uk.  The 'spider maps' are useful for figuring out hwich buses go where.

  5. Like London Eye, the Tower, see top attractions at http://www.eletz.net for more places :)

  6. If you go to the London Eye take a walk along the South Bank towards London Bridge. If your at the eye and facing the river you go right and just kind of walk along the river path. Theres some realy nice "old london" streets and a few pubs to stop at on the way plus TATE modern gallery. If its a sunny afternoon its on of my favorite parts of the city.

  7. it's hard to say because everyone has their own taste ... on the first day why not take one of the open top bus tours such as www.bigbustours.com or www.theoriginaltour.com ... don't get off the bus much, just do all their routes (including the river trip that some of them offer) and you'll get a good idea of what's on offer ... there's no need to buy tickets for these buses online, it's better to buy once you're here as that way you can be totally flexible about when you do it ... once you've had a quick peek at what there is, on subsequent days you can go back to the ones you want to see in depth by normal public transport
