What are the most intersting places to vistit in madrid spain?

I went to Madrid last Christmas! I have never had so much fun in my life! Here are a few suggestions from my trip.

1) Your first place to visit should be the Puerta del Sol. That's where everything is and comes out of--if Madrid is the center of Spain, than del Sol is the center of Madrid. It's bustling, it's beautiful, architectually and culturally. You could go shopping there, eat there, find a hotel, history, everything!!!

2) Next, you should visit another great square: the Plaza Mayor. It's situated near one of the streets branching out of the Puerta del Sol, and it's a beautiful place with aged facades and romantic alleyways. It was the center of all of Madrid's daily happenings in olden times.

3) Then, there' s Palacio Real-the Royal palace-a grand castle filled with jewelery and imposing furniture, striking architecture also. Simply amazing, and when we were there there was a Spanish music festival.

4) We went to two art museums-El Prado is the most famous one, and it is beautiful and huge, but I became very sleepy in the middle. There are numerous well-known pictures from Goya, etc. La Reina Sofia is the other museum, also BEAUTIFUL, more modern, more intriguing and bizarre. It houses other celebrated pictures too.

5) La Corral de la Moreria is the best restaurant to view flamenco dancing in its original form. It's fascinating and moving, but you have to check their schedule. It's at night, and I am not sure if it costs a lot of money.

6) What I enjoyed the most is the Parque del Retiro. It is in the same area as the Prado. Madrid is one of the greenest cities in the World, and the park was amazing and green and vivacious, with people relaxing, children holding hands, just the place to have an afternoon siesta... You must go there!

7) A fascinating day trip to Toledo is one of the funnest adventures ever. It's the most romantic place I've ever been to. The cathedral is superbly historic, and the tiny alleyways are just quixotic. And if you're Jewish, there is a lot of Jewish history there. MUST-SEE!

just take a walk around downtown, if you go to "parque del buen retiro" after you exit where the "puerta de alcala" is just walk down that street toward "puerta del sol" there are so many cool buildings on its way.

El Prado, Reina Sofia, (Art Musuems) Plaza Mayor, Palacio Real, El Rastro Flea Market (sundays only) -- and trip to Toledo or El Escorial can be a day side trip if you are there for more than 3 days or so

of course the Prado museum is a big one, even if your not into art, but it can be overwhelming, plan ahead and figure out what you definately want to see, the place is hugh, you'll never see it all.  Another place is the royal palace, again plan ahead, there are some days that they are closed to the public.
