What are the most overrated and underrated makeup products/brands?

My pick for most overrated brand is MAC. MAC products are good, but there are so many out there that are a lot better. They do get five stars for having a great color selection, especially in lipsticks.

My pick for most underrated brand is Lancome. Lancome is expensive, which I think turns a lot of people off, but I have never made a Lancome purchase that hasn't looked good and performed perfectly.

For most overrated makeup product I pick Maybelline Great Lash mascara. It's been around since I was a kid, which was a long time ago, and technological advances have made it useless. Don't believe the fashion magazine articles that say makeup artists use it all the time. Nonsense.

My pick for most underrated makeup product is Rimmel Lasting Finish foundation. It only costs seven bucks, but I'd buy it at any price. It lasts all day, makes your skin flawless, and minimizes pores.

I do agree, MAC is a bit overrated, BUT it's one of the only brands with a foundation light enough for me (NC15. I can use L'Oreal True Match, too. W1. :D)

But my biggest overrated would be Everyday Minerals. None of their foundation formulas work on my skin (which is only a little oily around my cheeks, but normal everywhere else). No matter what formula I use, it will always disappear in spots, and cake in others, even if I use a finishing powder. It's just not worth the trouble for me.

Underrated...I'd say Benefit. Their Boi-ing concealer is really good for me. I know a lot of people can't stand it, but it delivers what I need from a concealer (and the lightest one isn't too dark!). I don't like their shade selection for their foundations, but that's a price to pay.

I disagree with you on the Maybelline Great Lash mascara, but I already have naturally long, thick lashes. It's all I need to enhance them a little.

The most overrated makeup product I've used is the Almay Smart Shade makeup. Even "light" can't go as light as my skin.

I think the entire L'Oreal Bare Naturale line is underrated, but for some reason nobody appreciates their concealer. I like that stuff a lot! (I'm big on concealers)

for what you said on maybelline..i have to disagree with you i use it and i love it it works best on my lashes.

underrated: prescriptives..there blush is absolutely awesome...it gives you just the right amount of highlighting you need on your cheeks

Overrated Makeup: Estee Lauder and Bare Minerals (so messy)

Underrated Makeup: L'Oreal HIP (love the colors! they last forever!)

Overrated Skincare: Neutrogena, Dr. Brandt, & MD Skincare

Underrated Skincare: Philosophy (awesome!) and Murad

I agree with the others that there are some great products in drugstore lines and they don't tend to have the fragrance that department store brands have which is irritating to my skin.  Lancome colors are great, but I hate the way Lancome lipstick tastes.
