  1. There are so many choices out there now adays....and you can spend as much or as little as you want.

I think you might ask a couple questions to help you narrow your choices down.  First off, do you want something that has little to no teacher interaction?  Switched on Schoolhouse is a popular curriculum that is all computer based.  The parent/adult sets up the schedule and calendar and the kids can do as many subjects as you would like.  PACES is another popular curriculum for the self-motivated student.  Each subject has several mini-booklets which you complete and then test at the end.  You must test at a certain level to go on.  Both of these publishers have ways for you to mail in your results so you can have records.

Saxon is a popular math curriculum.  I like Making Math Meaningful but it depends on the level of math competency of the student as it goes by level.  Both Saxon and MMM will help you determine the level with their initial questions and testing.

Apologia Science is quite popular with many homeschoolers.  It is a Christian worldview.  Their are lots of experiments which the kids enjoy.

The Well-Trained Mind is a popular book for homeschoolers who would like to go the classical route...it has tons of curriculum suggestions and options as well as names and publishers to consider.

It you need something that is like a "curriculum in a box", Bob Jones and Abeka Book are both helpful in that.  Abeka usually is more advanced than the public schools.  Bob Jones is a little closer to the same level of learning.

    Hope this gets you going.

  3. i was homeschooled all my life before going to college, and we used Abeka. I recommend it. it's harder than some, but it definitely prepares you for the SATs or ACTs and college.

  4. I know Abeka (or A Beka) and Bob Jones are other popular ones.  Saxon math is horrible, by the way, but for some reason, everyone uses it.

You can find a lot of other books at www.rainbowresource.com

  5. We buy from the book section of Goodwill Store when we actually buy books.   We use the library and online for much of our studying and reading.

  6. Here's a good list of popular programs:

  7. Abeka is my favorite after many tries at others, their math is rigorous (I am a CPA) and has Scripture interwoven, science and health are God honoring, very pleased with it, am teaching 8th, 5th, 3rd and K this year.
