  1. Fredericksburg (might want to double check me on the spelling).  It's the site of a major Civil War battle.

  2. Depends on what part you're visiting.  I live in the Hampton Roads area, and there's tons of stuff to do here.

Va Beach...the beach, Va Aquarium, MotorWorld (Go Karts)

Norfolk....Nauticus Museum and the Wisconsin battleship, Va Zoo, Norfolk Botanical Gardens

Hampton...Va Air and Space Center (aviation and space museum, very cool)

Newport News....Virginia Living Museum (museum that features live animals from the state of Virginia, very popular museum!!!), The Mariner's Museum (Naval History, USS Monitor Center), Endview Plantation, Newport News Park (city park)

Williamsburg....Busch Gardens and Water Country USA, Colonial Williamsburg

    Yorktown....Yorktown Battlefields, Historic Jamestown Settlement

A little north, there's Kings Dominion in Doswell Va, near Richmond, as well as the Richmond Science Center.

If you're visiting the state, before your trip, you can always contact the area you're visiting and request a visitor's guide.  The guides are free and give tons of info on attractions.
