OK.. I am a jiu-jitsu practitioner, and am very good at what I do, however I need to improve my take-down abilities. I'm also a competent striker so I don't have a necessity to take it to the ground I'm just a much more technical submission fighter than I am a striker. Anyway I want to know which ones can be done from clinches, with no gi, because I am training for mma. I will have no problem practicing these, and have already implemented a no gi Osoto-gari to my resume of techniques. If there are any others that involve sweeps, reap, and hip tosses that are practical I would love for someone to tell me the names of the moves or provide videos so that I can learn them and practice them myself to give me better take down prowess.

Currently my double leg always ends me up in half guard or at best side control. I never can get full mount like your supposed to shoot for.

  1. TRY OSOTO MAKICOME

  2. There are tons of great ones...

I like a cross body Osoto Gari, I also use Uchi Mata to a high degree in No Gi grappling, especially against wrestlers or people defending the shot.

Setting up the Uchi Mata with a Sasae Tsurikomi Ashi, (works well on it's own too) You can do both from a body lock, or clinch, or over under scenario.

Ouchi Gari is alright, but the problem is you invariably land in half guard.

Most major hip throws work very well form a overhook/underhook clinch.

Personally I am a big fan ot Soto Makikomi and Harai Makikomi.

As far as MMA, you may also want to look at High Crotch pickups and Singles as well.

Good luck, feel free to message me if I can be of any help.

  3. Not osotogari, try koshi guruma - headlock into a hip throw. Tani otoshi would work as well, instead of gripping the gi, loop hands around the shoulder and head and drag down that way.

  4. ouchi gari!!!    most common and greatest judo throw of all time!!!!!!!!

    ahah
