What are the most remote area of Australia?

Its for a story I am writing, I need a remote area, as far as possible from any civilization, but I'm looking for an area that isn't entirely a desert, (i know most of Australia is)?

The two above whould be the most remote areas of Australia.

Alice Springs would be the most remote civilisation in the country... don't know about somewhere that isn't desert/civilised though... could you just write your story on the area along the road between Broken Hill and Mildura or somewhere like that?  I imagine that part of the world would be pretty remote...

Oh, and the entire country is not a desert.  Whoever wrote that above me needs to do more research on the country I think!

Ayres Rock is not in fact remote from civilisation since there is a 5 star hotel there. Those people who suggested the rainforest of Notrthern Queensland, or perhaps hte west coast of Tasmania might be on the right track for you.

Most of the remote places are desert.  However, the Cape York Peninsula, the area around the Gulf of Carpentaria, and the Kimberley Region are pretty remote.  The same could be said of Western Tasmania, the Nullabor Plain or any number of places.  Cape York is one of the least accessible places in the country and it's not desert, so in my mind would make a good setting for a story.  But - do plenty of research!

Karumba.  It is in Queensland, right on the Gulf of Carpentaria.  It is a small town of maybe 300 inhabitants,  Desert all around, but once you are there you can sit on the coast and watch the sun go down over the Gulf.  Magnificent.
