  1. I think newtown is safe...

redfern is not so safe.  I wouldn't like to live in Macquarie Fields.

I live in Potts Point and have never felt unsafe in Kings Cross, but there are some dodgy places in Woolloomooloo, due to the high indigenous population, where I thought I was going to be robbed or worse.  I have never walked there at night since.

  2. I would say,

    Cabramatta

    Lakemba

    Kings Cross

    Liverpool

  3. cabramatta

  4. The Bureau of Crime Statistics provides evidence that the areas you include are no less safe and in many cases safer than others. The stats are under local government area but give a very good indication of the suburbs they include.

In  2007 for assaults (non domestic):

Marrickville (Newtown) has 686 assaults per 100,00 and listed as 66 in the rank of all councils in the state

    Liverpool (Liverpool) 512 rank 92

    Blacktown (Blacktown) 762 rank 52

    of interest

    Randwick council 623 rank 76

    Manly council 711 rank 53

    Waverly council 847 rank 26

The Waverly council district which includes the wealthiest suburbs in the county has the worst record for assault on any Sydney area.

Sydney city is excluded as the movement of people in and out of the city skews that stats but it is acknowledged that the most incidents happen there especially around the George St cinemas

  5. I live in Newtown...the main crime here is burglary. Apart from that i've never really had a problem.

Redfern is definitely a risky place - it has some nice areas but even there, there alot of muggings and burglaries.

The worst suburbs I think are housing commission suburbs out west (Claymore, Airds, Minto, Kingswood etc). Liverpool, Blacktown and Campbelltown are all pretty rough as well. I wouldn't walk around there by myself anyway.

  6. Umm.. bankstown.. liverpool.. redfern..

Cabramatta? Unsafe? I lived in cabramatta before, never had a problem

  7. Nowhere is safe

  8. Well, I live in the Bankstown area in south western Sydney and I can tell you it's not safe here. The inner south west such as Canterbury/Bankstown and the outer south west such as Cabramatta, Liverpool and Campbelltown are dangerous places. It is portrayed by many people as a place where you go if you want to get shot. I however, have been living here all my life and I have not encountered anything.

The outer western suburbs such as Blacktown are also a no-no if you care about safety.

  9. Redfern is a horrible area, lots of crime and drugs.

    I also must say that Mount Druitt is a very very unsafe area, I've heard that pedestrians can't even walk the street without being either;

    - peltered with eggs, fruit or other objects

    - barked at

    - being verbally abused by passing cars

    - sometimes even physically attacked

A few relatives of mine live there, in the past six months they have been broken into three times... and their home is vandalised with eggs, rocks, fruit etc on a regular basis. They have also woken up in the morning only to find used condoms on their front door handle, dog droppings smeared all over the front steps and their bins tipped over.

Children there, can not even use the local parks or play equipment as they are hangouts for drunk people and drug dealers who also urinate all over the equipment and leave behind broken glass and sometimes even used needles etc.

Their is regular letter drops in their street from the local police asking residents to give information on houses in the street which may be distributing drugs. It also listed the signs which may indicate that a house is a "Drug House"...

Mount Druitt has also being labeled "Mount Drugitt"...

They have also told me that they can't even go to the local store without being asked for money by people loitering at the entrance to the store.

Their is also allot of teenagers there who think they are gangsta's and carry around knives and etc and roam the streets at night!

There are apparently to rival gangs in the area known as "Crips" and "Bloods"...

I do not visit my relatives there as I'm too scared to leave my car out the front of their home!!

One of their neigbours actually had their entire bonnet and side panel of their car key scratched at night whilst the car was parked in their back yard!

My advise: stay away from Mount Druitt!! Its a h**l of a place! lol

  10. Claymore, Mt Druitt, Redfern. and Airds
