  5. Central locking is not a security feature. It's mere convenience.

    Here's what I have in my Mazda3.

If you can achieve similar level, you car could be breaking into, but it would be incredibly difficult to steal it. Even attempt to tow it would trigger the alarm and make the car un-startable :-)

I have an engine immobiliser (standard Mazda immobiliser) connected with remotely controlled alarm - they are connected in the way, that it's NOT POSSIBLE to start the engine if the car was not open with a a particular remote - even using an original key would trigger an alarm and block the engine. There's, of course, a secret button to temporarily disarm the system, in case the remote's battery is flat or if you lost it.

The whole security system has it's own battery and it's own horn, so disconecting the car's battery wouldn't affect it.

Even if somebody managed to enter the the car without triggering the alarm, they would have 2 minutes to start the car, otherwise the immobiliser kicks in again and it would be impossible to start the car without the remote. In any way, it's not possible to short-circuit start the car.

Shock sensors and interior ultrasound monitors (motion detectors) are standard on the system as is the subsystem that monitors electric and electronic devices in the car. If a electronic device is switched on in the car while it's locked, it triggers the alarm - the device doesn't have to be connected to anything on the car. This whole part can be operated independently, so I can leave my dog in the car which would still be fully armed.

There are three independent sensors - on the bonnet, doors and trunk lid.

The system remembers the causes of the last two alarm events and tells me what went wrong.

The encryption code is a floating one and changes with each use so copying the radio signal is useless.

I could have opted for automatic windows closing or auto-lock feature, the latter can be usefull, if you you lock the car and accidentally open it again (remote is pressed in the pocket of your trousers or wallet...). If there's no activity (door open, etc. the car would lock itself.

Any attempt to tow the car or steal the tires would trigger the alarm too as it detects any deviation from the XYZ position in which the car was locked.

    Some more options

It's also possible to install GSM module that would send you a text message to your cell phone when the alarm is triggered or it would actually call you and transmit everything from the car.

You can also have a mechanical lock installed on the transmission - it locks the transmission in Parking/Gear position.

Lo-jack is a good idea but it doesn't prevent theft.

Smash resistant window foils are also available.

  6. all its windows.
