What are the myths and tales about fairy trees?

I live on a small farm in Ireland. In the middle of one of my fields stands a mysterious looking tree. In my area everyone calls it the fairy tree. I have heard many an old story about neighbours playing Irish music at the foot of the tree almost attempting to entertain the unseen fairies. I have often thought about playing a tin whistle at the foot of the tree. But these thoughts soon become nightmares as I fear of what may show it’s self. I have also heard that attempting to cut down the tree would result in a terrible curse or really bad luck. But the question I am asking is what are the myths and tales are behind such a tree, so that I will be able to understand more about this tree in my field

there are things we don't understand or even believe because we need to see to believe.  somethings just take faith and if your people believe there is something mystical about the tree than let them.  You never know what lived there 2ooo yrs ago.  we only believe in dinosaurs because we see bones.  there are a lot of bones that have disappeared over the yrs animals that are just being found.  never say never........
