What are the myths and tales behind fairy trees?

I live on a small farm in Ireland. In the middle of one of my fields stands a mysterious looking tree. In my area everyone calls it the fairy tree. I have heard many an old story about neighbours playing Irish music at the foot of the tree almost attempting to entertain the unseen fairies. I have often thought about playing a tin whistle at the foot of the tree. But these thoughts soon become nightmares as I fear of what may show it’s self. I have also heard that attempting to cut down the tree would result in a terrible curse or really bad luck. But the question I am asking is what are the myths and tales that are behind such a tree, so that I will be able to understand more about this tree in my field

  1. You should only play your tin whistle if you can play it well, if you can't and make a horrible sound the fairies will cast terrible spells on you to make you shut up.  Your fingers will fall off and your lips will be eaten by maggots.

The doctor probably knows more about this, I suggest you visit him and tell him your fears.  He may be able to prescribe tablets which will stop the fairies from eating your head.

  2. the elementals aren't evil or mean-they act like children and love to play.

  3. You don't want to be asking such questions even.

And never take an axe to it.

If you do it's not fairies you will have to worry about but you can be sure the banshee's will come visit you.

ffs. Is all bullsh!t. No such thing as fairy tree's or mounds.
