  1. t-mobile, e-plus (with various smaller companies like base), vodafone, o2. Some offer flat rates, some have pre-paid telephone cards... it depends what you need it for. If you don't want to get an extra (landline) phone, you might want to consider the flat rate options (e.g. base costs about $30 a month, but you can call all E-plus phones and all landline phones in Germany (except for hotlines etc.) for free and also send SMS free to E-plus phones. But if you just want people to be able to call you, you should get a prepaid phone.

  2. T-Mobile, O2, Vodafon, E-Plus

  3. At the moment T-mobile is one of them. Pink logo, white background.

  4. These are the major cell phone networks in Germany;

    T-Mobile, Vodafone, E-Plus and O2. There are also smaller companies that offer service, but the four I mentioned have the best coverage and more packages to choose from. I personally think T-Mobile is the better of the four, because they don't have any dead zones - whereas the other three do have some dead zones, they do, however, switch you to T-Mobile when your in a dead zone for them. T-Mobile belongs to Deutsche Telekom.

  5. There are four companies which own a network:

    Vodafone, T-Mobile, O2 and E-Plus

    Vodafone and T-Mobile both got a D-Network, O2 and E-Plus got a E-Network.

    The D-Networks works with 900 MHZ, the E-Networks with 1800 MHZ.

    That means that the E-Network need more base stations to aim the same coverage than the D-Networks

    To cut a long story short: Vodafone and T-Mobile have a higher coverage (nearly everywhere, because germany is a densely populated country). But this does not mean that the coverage of E-Plus and O2 is bad.

    You might have look at coverage maps:

    There are several smaller companies which offer plans or pre-paid accounts. But they all use the networks of the four main companies, mentioned above.

  6. Germany:

    Telekom D1

    Vodafone D2

    E-Plus

    Viag Interkom

    Quam
