  1. The dude above me is wrong.

Carbs, proteins and nucleic acids are composed of small organic molecules called monomers hook together to form polymers.

I actually went downstairs to get my Biology Book and binder

  2. Monomers: amino acids

    Polymers: polypeptides

  3. Yesss alex5109, but those monomers are different depending on what polymer you're talking about.

carbs (carbohydrates = carbon/hydrogen) are made up of sugar monomers, such as glucose. Eg. Starch, cellulose, glycogen etc, are all polymers using glucose as the monomer.

the guy above you, kumorifox, was right in saying that the monomers for protein were amino acids. Each protein molecule are made up of anywhere from tens to hundreds of amino acids. The amino acids are linked by a peptide bonds and create a change called a polypeptide chain

DNA would be a polymer of nucleic acids, each of which is linked by a phosphodiester bond; Each nucleotide would be a monomer.

As for the answer to this question. The amino acids would be considered the monomers in this case. However, some people argue that the definition of a polymer is the repeated linked units of which each unit is the same. This holds true for things such as starch, but since each amino acid composition is different, under this definitions, proteins would not be a polymer of amino acids.

  4. alex your a dumbass

He was asking what specific monomers and polymers are proteins made of.

A polymer is a general word for a long chain of molecules joined together by the same type of bond

A monomer is a single molecule that can be linked to similar molecules by the same type of bonding to form a polymer.

DNA is a polymer made up of nucleotide monomers

carbohydrates are polymers made of sugars

carbs are also called polysaccharides  saccharides means sugar ie. "many sugar"

proteins are composed of one or more polypeptide strands which are folded into a complex 3d structure.

So the short answer is like the 1st guy said

    polymer of proteins: polypeptide

    monomer of polypeptide: amino acids

Alex don't tell others they are wrong because you misunderstand you highschool biology text
