What are the names of the two supposedly "big" hurricanes before katrina?

Within the two years before hurricane katrina struck new orleans there were 1 or two hurricane that the astrologists made a big deal out of and a bunch of people evacuated. but then they turned out to be nothing. that's why so many people didn't leave new orleans when people warned about katrina. Does anyone know the names of these hurricanes

You had 4 major hurricanes that hit florida in 2004.  They weren't Category 5, but one was a Category 4.  You had Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne.  Those 4 hurricanes were pretty destructive.

The only 2 category 5 hurricanes to make landfall in the last half century are Andrew, Homestead, FL with winds of 160 mph (this was done after surveying the damage) on August 22, 1992.

The other was Hurricane Camile in 1969 which hit Biloxi, MS with winds of 175 mph.

There were none that were really "big". There were a few that were forecast to possibly be really bad for the Louisiana coast, but the forecast was wrong, which is why no one remembers them.

There were some bad ones in Florida/Alabama in that time frame, but no category 4's or 5's. Hurricane Ivan (2004) actually was a category 5 at one point in open water, but was down to a 3 before it hit land. It was still really bad for those who took the hit though.

Kevin is right about Andrew and Camille - except that Hurricane Camille had recorded winds of 200 mph at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi when the wind gauges blew away (I grew up a few minutes away from that base).
